This website has been created to pay tribute to PC 642 Bill Barker who was tragically taken from us on 20th November 2009 in the horrific floods which affected the whole of the County of Cumbria. He was doing what he loved, protecting others, when the tragedy occurred. He was on duty in Workington, Cumbria, directing traffic away from the Northside Bridge which was being affected by the floods when the bridge suddenly collapsed.

We want the whole world to remember our ‘Cumbrian Hero’ PC 642 Bill Barker. Bill was himself an FLO (Family Liaison Officer), who helped numerous families come to terms with the tragic loss of a loved one, little did we all think that we would need the services of the FLO Officers within our own family. Only now do we understand how important these Officers really are and we would like to say THANK YOU, from the bottom of our hearts, for all the support you are giving, not only to the direct family but to all families in need.

A Big Thank You also has to go to all of Bill’s friends and colleagues for love and support they have given Bill’s wife Hazel and their four children. They are truly an amazing bunch of people who we are so proud of.

We should not forget the tireless work which has been and is still being done by all the emergency services and numerous volunteers and voluntary organisations for which the Cumbrian people will be eternally proud of and grateful. Our thoughts are with the people of the towns of Cockermouth and Workington who are pulling together (in true Cumbrian Spirit) to rebuild what has been taken from them.

Sleep Well Bill. We will always remember you. You will always be in our hearts and our thoughts.

  8. Bill was a very brave man and a roll model for members of the Police Force.

Every day the Police go out and they do not know what incidents they will meet up with during their shift and sometimes when they are off duty.

Thank you for all the Bills out there, male or female.

  10. Bill was the officer assigned to us when our parents were killed in a car crash. He was such a genuine bloke - practical but caring and he helped us through a terrible time. For him to be taken is a true tragedy for his family, his colleagues and those people he really helped. Our thoughts are with Hazel and his beloved kids - be proud, be strong - just as Bill was.

  11. Well done on the single. This would not be easy for an adult to do never mind a young girl.

I have just ordered two pin badges to support the Charity.

Hope you can reach your target.
